Evaluation and results
Acer-EUN Tablet Pilot 2012
Acer and European Schoolnet carried out a pilot study in 2012 on the use of tablet devices to enhance teaching and learning practices. During this study, Acer equipped 263 teachers in 63 schools from eight European countries with Acer Iconia W500 tablet computers. The countries involved were Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Additionally, 116 students received tablets as part of the pilot: one classroom set of tablets was provided to a UK school (26 tablets per class) and three classrooms were equipped with tablets (30 tablets per class) in Spain. The objectives of the project were to gain a better understanding of teachers’ use of tablets to enhance students’ learning. In cases where each student in a class was provided with a tablet, the project aimed to further investigate 1:1 teaching and learning approaches.

Developing practical guidelines for 1:1 computing initiatives
European Schoolnet has published a set of practical guidelines following work with 1:1 computing initiatives; in particular the experience gained in the practical implementation of the Acer-European Schoolnet Educational Netbook Pilot and the Tablet Pilot. The guidelines are designed to be a starting point for school leaders, teachers, education advisers, policy makers and the research communities who are seeking to implement the use of 1:1 devices within learning and teaching. They will also support the work of commercial suppliers and industry.
The guidelines identifies fifteen areas that schools will need to consider as part of their implementation of 1:1 technologies. Under each of the main themes that are addressed, you will find a list of "Questions and Suggestions" that have arisen from our on-going work with teachers.
The publication offers also practical illustrations of some of the topics based on the experience of the teachers participating in the Acer-European Schoolnet Educational Tablet Pilot.
The guidelines are available in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Estonian and Italian. All the reports are also available in a paper version.

Study: Overview and analysis of 1:1 learning initiatives for Education and Training in Europe' (1to1Learning)
JRC-IPTS commissioned European Schoolnet (EUN) to conduct the study 'Overview and analysis of 1:1 learning initiatives for Education and Training in Europe' (1to1Learning). The aim of the study was to provide an overview of recent 1:1 learning initiatives in primary and secondary education across European countries as well as to identify major bottlenecks and barriers to their innovative implementation in schools.
The final report presents the results of 1to1 Learning study discussing the implementation strategies of current 1:1 initiatives and concluding on policy options for mainstreaming 1:1 initiatives that focus on the notion of 1:1 learning rather than 1:1 devices and successfully promote technological, pedagogical and organizational innovation in E&T across Europe.
Acer-EUN Netbook Pilot 2010-2011
The principal aim of the Educational Netbook Pilot was to explore how the introduction of netbooks and one-to-one (1:1) pedagogy in and outside of schools could impact teaching and learning processes. From January 2010 until July 2011 a total of 240 classes in six European countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Turkey and United Kingdom) were equipped with netbooks.
The final report which is based on the replies from 735 teachers, 3602 students and 2618 parents, highlights six issues that are all of importance when working towards a more systematic 1:1 pedagogy implementation in education.

Fourier Science Pilot 2010-2011
With the support of Fourier Systems and Acer, nine pilot schools from the Acer-European Schoolnet’s Educational Netbook Pilot, a cluster of European schools which are already fully equipped with netbooks, were further equipped with data logger devices and sensors. The pilot activities took place in the six countries covered by the Educational Netbook Pilot: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and Turkey. The goal of this pilot was to analyse the impact of the use of digital equipment on the intrinsic motivation of teachers to teach and pupils to learn.
The objective of the research was to assess the impact of the use of data loggers and sensors in science classes and whether such practice introduced changes in the teachers’ teaching processes and attitudes and on pupils’ learning attitudes, interest and motivation.
It appears that the use if these ICT tools increased the pupils abilities to learn sciences and work both in autonomous and collaborative way. The report also shows gender divide still remain in perception of sciences.

Acer interactive projector study
In parallel with the Netbook and Tablet Pilots, European Schoolnet and Acer carried out research to examine how 1:1 netbook approaches can be combined with innovative use of Acer interactive projectors to support new ways of learning and teaching.

Comparative study on tablet operating systems
Spain is one of the eight countries taking part in the Acer-European Schoolnet Tablet Pilot which explores the pedagogical benefits that could be gained from the use of tablet computers in the classroom. In the framework of the pilot, the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, has carried out a comparative study on the functionality of the tablets when used with different operating systems.
The report of this study describes the project implementation in Spain and the results of the comparison of different operating system. The tablet used in the project is Acer Iconia W500 and the operating systems investigated were Android, Linux Ubuntu and Windows.
